Blood of the Black Owl is an American doom metal band from Seattle, Washington, and has been described as "a primitive fusion of slow tempo Earth Metal and Woodland ritualistic Doom".[1] The music is characterized by containing a combination of solemn ambiance fused North American shamanic chants and sounds as well as Germanic pagan elements. The result, particularly on 'A Feral Spirit', is the resultant 71 minute ode to the "spirits of nature and the unspoken bonds that tie man, beast and environment"[2]

Blood of the Black Owl is one of the many side-projects of Chett W. Scott; it was formed in 2004 and was previously known as Svart Ugle (from the Norwegian, meaning "Black Owl"). This is Scott's solo project and he plays all the instruments although there have been intermittent but significant contributions from James Woodhead and Daniel Harrod. His music has been highly praised by the music press for its style and experimentation, particularly the third studio album, A Banishing Ritual, released in 2010.
Blood of the Black Owl has released four full-length albums, Blood of the Black Owl (debut,2006), A Feral Spirit (2008),A Banishing Ritual (2010), and Light the Fires (2011). They also released a split with Celestial in 2008.
